At a meeting last week, the last under Bernanke's leadership, the Fed approved a second $10 billion reduction in its monthly bond purchases to $65 billion. The Fed's bond buying has been intended to keep long-term interest rates near record lows to stimulate the economy. Hensarling has argued that the Fed's use of trillions in bond purchases and ultra-low rates have left the country vulnerable to higher inflation and economic instability. Yellen made no comments during the ceremony Monday in which the oath of office was administered by Fed Governor Daniel Tarullo, the senior member of the Fed's seven-member board.

New title but old role may be ahead for Bill Gates
Even as Bill Gates weighs giving up his title of chairman of Microsoft Corp., he's poised to remain involved at the company he co-founded in an area of its deepest need: crafting must-have products. As the board prepares to appoint Satya Nadella as Microsoft's next chief executive officer, it's considering replacing Gates as board chairman, people with knowledge of the matter have said. Microsoft has had just two CEOs - Ballmer and Gates - and one chairman. Some external candidates who discussed the CEO job with Microsoft expressed concerns they would lack independence if both Ballmer and Gates stayed on as directors, according to people familiar with their thinking.

'A Global Bathtub': Rethinking The U.S. Oil Export Ban
Over time the predominant metaphor for picturing the world oil market shifted from those little barrels of crude to what Yale energy economist Bill Nordhaus calls the "Global Bathtub of Oil.". Nordhaus tracked world oil prices over two decades, and found the global price for a barrel of crude tends to be the same whether the oil is from Saudi Arabia or Scotland. According to bathtub theory, no one supplier can completely disrupt the oil market, and the more oil that goes in bathtub, the better energy security is for everyone - including Americans. "Doing so would enrich oil companies by enabling them to sell their oil at the higher world price, but it could increase domestic gasoline prices and reduce our energy security."

Barclays boss Antony Jenkins gives up bonus worth up to 2.7m
Barclays boss Antony Jenkins has given up his bonus worth up to 2.7m after another year mired in scandal but will still receive shares worth around 4m next month in awards from previous years. The way forward: Antony Jenkins' move heaps further pressures on other bosses including Lloyds chief Antonio Horta Osorio, to give up bonuses. Jenkins' 4m award relates to share incentives granted in previous years, that are now coming to fruition. Jenkins' move comes just days after it warned that a 330m charge for legal and regulatory issues will eat into its profits for 2013.

HP reveals 'extensive errors' in Autonomy accounting
The review of Autonomy's 2010 and 2011 financials shows for the first time the scope of the software company's accounting tricks. HP's late-2012 discovery of Autonomy's accounting missteps in part led to a massive $8.8 billion writedown of the company. Current CEO Meg Whitman said in November 2012 that a senior Autonomy manager came forward with the damning details shortly after Autonomy co-founder Mike Lynch left the company. He believes HP is simply accounting for certain items differently than Autonomy did when it was a private company.
