Almost 4 percent of homes with a mortgage in the Chicago area were in the foreclosure process in October, compared with 5.7 percent of homes a year ago, housing data provider CoreLogic reported Monday. While a substantial improvement, the firm also found that 7.9 percent of homes with a mortgage locally were seriously delinquent, meaning they were at least 90 days past due and could be subject to a foreclosure action. In the 12 months that ended in October, 19,765 homes in the Chicago area completed the foreclosure process. As of October, about 879,000 homes across the country were in some stage of the foreclosure process, down from 1.3 million October 2012.
